Real estate investors are getting contradictory signals about the health of the real estate market. On the one hand, the depressed fundamentals of private real estate would lead one to view the asset class as shaky at best. On the other hand, the market has just given real estate investment trusts a rousing vote of confidence, driving the Wilshire REIT Index up a whopping 113.7% in the 12 months ending March 31, 2010.
